KOSD is an “Advance San Diego” semi-finalist!

Karen Organization of San Diego has been selected as a semi-finalist for “Advance San Diego”

Competing for more than $75,000 in cash grants

SAN DIEGO – July 9, 2014 –Out of 67 applications, Karen Organization of San Diego (KOSD) has been selected by San Diego Social Venture Partners, a local non-profit giving organization, to be a part of their Advance San Diego event that is modeled after the popular “fast pitch” venture capital funding competitions (similar to the entrepreneur TV show ‘Shark Tank’). KOSD will be participating in their program from July through September, competing for more than $75,000 in cash.

“This is a great opportunity for KOSD to learn from business leaders to help us define our impact and better communicate our outcomes and vision,” said Nao Kabashima, Executive Director. “We are looking forward to this experience so that it may inspire others to invest in our vision and work.”

In May, San Diego Social Venture Partners issued a call to all San Diego non-profit organizations to apply for Advance San Diego. Over 67 local non-profits applied and the list was narrowed down to 30. KOSD will have 180 seconds to convince an audience of influential funders, philanthropists, businesses and community leaders on October 8th. A panel of independent judges will determine cash awards and the audience will vote for their own winner. This event is the culmination of the Advance San Diego program and showcases how these semi-finalists communicate their innovative ways to improve and transform the lives of San Diegans. San Diego Social Venture Partners offers three competition segments in the fast-pitch competition, including, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Military and their Families, and Youth and the Arts.
