Social Security card application
Cash Aid, MediCal, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and/or SNAP (food stamps) applications and inquiries

Education Connections

Enroll in school and receive educational resources.

Since 2018, KOSD has worked with the San Diego Unified District as one of the subcontractors for the California Newcomer Education and Well-Being (CalNEW) project funded by the State of California. Through this contract, KOSD provides individual support to refugee students and their families and conducts assessments that identify and understand their needs relating to academic performance, English language acquisition, social adjustment, health and wellness, attendance, and college and career readiness. KOSD also receives Level Up grants from the SDUSD and the San Diego Foundation to provide enrichment programs after school and during the summer focusing on STEAM education and culture preservation (including Karen and Burmese language classes).

Health Care

Connect with health clinics and mental health providers.

KOSD conducts outreach and education to reduce health disparities in the community. KOSD’s Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Community Support Navigators (CSNs) are trained to connect clients with health resources and non-clinical crisis counseling.

Housing

We also provide training to help refugees learn about their rights and responsibilities as tenants and how to properly maintain their homes. KOSD also connects refugee community members with affordable housing opportunities and rental assistance applications.

Immigration

Get referrals for green cards, attend Citizenship classes to prepare for the Citizenship Test.

KOSD offers support with pathways to citizenship through valued partnerships and aids with other immigration issues that arise.

Community Resources Connections

Learn about the variety of public services at other agencies and get assistance through any enrollment processes.

These services include but are not limited to Public Health Programs, Food Security Programs, Financial Literacy Programs, Cultural Arts Programs, Domestic Violence Services, Substance Abuse Services, Leadership Trainings, and Recreational Activities. We also aid with enrolling clients in assistance programs for their utilities and help them with any concerns regarding their bills.
